An Introduction to Computing

What is a Computer?
           Computer is an electronic machine that operate under a set of instruction(Program) stored in its memory, accept inputs or data supplied, through an input device, processes the input or data into an information which can be stored in its own memory for further use or communicated to the user via an input device. A computer can simply be defined as an electronic device that accepts data, process the data and send it out as information via an input device.
History Of Computer

           The history of computers started with inventions from great mathematicians and scientist like Blaise Pascal, Charles Babbage, Dr Herman Hollerith, Lady Ada Augusta Byron(First Programmer), John Atanasoff, Clifford Berry and others.

Computer can be classified according to;

1. Generations(First to Fifth generation)
2. According to Size(Super computers, Mainframe Computers, Micro Computers, Mini Computers and to some authors or school of though laptop computers
3. According to types (Digital computers, Analog Computer and Hybrid Computers)
4. According to Function (Servers, Workstations, Embedded Computers etc.)

Impact Of Computer on the society

• Computers have assisted man greatly especially in areas like:

• Medical Diagnosis
• Online Banking, Trading etc.
